Introducing Alonso

Alonso Aquino is an Associate Lawyer at Harris Gomez Group, where he advises on corporate, commercial, and cross-border transactions across Latin America and Peru. With a background in both corporate law, accounting standards and international business, Alonso assists clients in structuring their investments, managing acquisitions, and navigating complex regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions.

Drawing on his experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate governance, private equity, and venture capital, Alonso supports companies throughout every stage of their growth, including initial due diligence to negotiation and post-closing execution. His work also includes estate planning and wealth management for family groups with assets and beneficiaries in Peru and abroad, reflecting his ability to balance technical precision with sensitivity to client goals.

Background and education

Before joining HGG, Alonso gained experience at leading Peruvian law firms, advising local and international clients in sectors such as energy, mining, real estate, and financial services. He has played key roles in complex corporate reorganisations, cross-border M&A deals, and shareholder-rights matters, providing strategic, business-aligned legal advice.

Alonso holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of California, Berkeley – School of Law, where he earned a Business Law Certificate. He is admitted to practice before the Lima Bar Association (Peru) and is qualified for admission to the State Bar of California (USA).

Fluent in English and Spanish, Alonso’s bilingual and bicultural background allows him to bridge communication between legal teams, investors, and management across regions, an essential skill for facilitating smooth, efficient transactions in international settings.

Current projects

At Harris Gomez Group, Alonso is actively involved in advising foreign investors and multinational companies entering or expanding in Latin America. Currently, he is involved in the negotiation for the financing or acquisition of various mining assets located in the Latam region. This includes, participating in the negotiation for the financing of an operating gold project in Peru.

Also, provides legal and commercial advice to foreign suppliers looking to enter Latin America or who recently has set up shop in the region, especially if they pertain to the METs sector. This support includes from general corporate governance and accounting standards advice to the negotiation and structure of joint ventures, procurement agreements, technology transfer agreements and contract mining agreements.

With his dual expertise in civil-law and common-law systems, Alonso plays a vital role in helping clients understand and reconcile differences between legal traditions, ensuring that both local and foreign parties involved understand the terms and conditions being negotiated in each transaction,  while maintaining commercial agility and international standards of legal protection.
