Colombia Launches Electricity Transmission Tenders

Electricity Transmission Tenders

Colombia’s mining and energy planning unit UPME launched supply, construction and maintenance tenders for three electricity transmission projects.

CARIBBEAN COAST REINFORCEMENT PROJECT

The 500kV Caribbean coast reinforcement project consists of upgrades to substations and transmission lines near Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

Tender winners will be responsible for constructing one line bay in the 500kV Cerromatoso substation, two line bays in the 500kV Chinú substation and one line bay in the 500kV Copey substation; installing 60MVA inductive reactors at the ends of the Cerromatoso-Chinú 500kV line; constructing a 500kV line of approximately 200km between the Chinú and Copey substations; and installing 84MVA inductive reactors at the ends of the Chinú-Copey 500kV line.

SOUTHWESTERN REINFORCEMENT PROJECT

The 500kV southwestern reinforcement project consists of upgrades to substations and transmission lines in the southwestern and central areas of Colombia.

Tender winners will be responsible for constructing one line bay in the 500kV Medellín substation and two line bays in the 500kV La Virginia substation; constructing a 500kV line of 170km from substation Medellín to La Virginia; and installing 84MVA inductive reactors at the ends of the Medellín-La Virginia line.

Tender winners must also construct a 500kV substation – dubbed Alférez – along with two line bays and two transformer bays; install two 500/230 transformers at Alférez; and build a 500kV line 200km long connecting Alférez with La Virginia, with 84MVA inductive reactors at the ends.

Additional works include constructing two line bays and two transformer bays at the existing 230kV Alférez substation.

ITUANGO-MEDELLÍN SUBSTATION PROJECT

The Ituango-Medellín substation project consists of constructing two new substations in central Colombia with associated transmission lines and works to surrounding substations.

Tender winners’ responsibilities will include the construction of the 500kV Ituango substation with four line bays and the 500kV Medellín substation with one line bay and two transformer bays.

Additional works include transmission lines, line bays, transformers, transformer bays and inductive reactors to connect the new substations with the 500kV Cerromatoso substation, the 500kV Porce III substation, the 230kV Medellín substation and the 230kV Ancón Sur substation.
