The Chilean energy ministry and the farming ministry’s innovation foundation (FIA) are calling for bids to incorporate renewable energy into the farming and forestry sectors.

FIA will provide up to 100mn pesos (US$ 178,000) for each project, which must be developed, implemented, and commissioned by a single party within 18 month of signing the contract

“High energy costs currently affect the competitiveness of all economic sectors, especially agriculture and forestry, given that most are small and medium sized producers,” said FIA executive director Fernando Bas in an energy ministry press release.

“The tender aims to allow farmers to generate some of their consumption with clean energy, without being exposed to market price volatility,” added Bas.

The release mentioned biodigesters, solar dryers, wind systems, geothermal heat pumps, biomass boilers and cogeneration systems, solar thermal collectors, photovoltaic panels and mini run-of-river hydro as possible renewable energy sources that can be included in the proposals.

Bids for new non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) projects at existing farms and forestry operations can be submitted until June 26.

The bases and application form are available on www.fia.cl and Inquiries may be directed to email: ERNC_2014@fia.cl .
